Project 2 part 1: 2 exercises, students use Adobe Photoshop as tool for doing digital imaging, compost different images into one final output.

Project 2 part 2: Double exposure. Students use specific skillsets from photoshop to blend their portrait with layers of background images.

Project 2 part 3: Production Shooting & Editing. Students use DSLR of mobile phone for production shooting that is been properly set up and lit. The selected photos will be edited in photoshop to meet the decided theme.

Learning Goals:

1. Generate and communicate design concepts and solutions through manual and digital skills effectively and skillfully.
2. Use creative thinking skills and methodologies to explore, generate and test a wide range of conceptual ideas.
3. Use information and communication technology to source navigate, select, retrieve and manage information.

Deadline:
Week 10

PROJECT 2A: DIGITAL IMAGING

1. Exercise 1

Our first task for this exercise was to take a full-body picture of ourselves from an eye level and edit the image into the Hearst Mansion. For this task, I took a picture of myself before a white wall for easier masking in Photoshop. I also wore colored clothes, so they didn't blend into the white background.

2. Exercise 2

Next assignment is to select one black and white photo from a folder Mr. Martin shared. I chose this portrait to color and used a portrait of Shawn Mendes as my color reference.

PROJECT 2B: DOUBLE EXPOSURE

1. Double Exposure

We begin this task by taking a portrait of ourselves. After examining the photo results, I chose the following picture to create the double exposure effect. Afterward, I started looking for material to use for my double exposure. I think merging my portrait with a puzzle piece would create an interesting analogy that indicates the incompleteness of a person.

After selecting the photos, I began separating myself from the background by using a mask layer and setting the image to black and white. Then, I mask out the back of the hair in the form of puzzles while adding a cloud of smoke and birds coming out of the head. Lastly, I tweaked the curve adjustments and added a gradient map to the double exposure for finishing touches.

Mr. Martin recommends the puzzle effect be placed on the face rather than on the back of the hair. By doing so, it can further implicate the analogy that was intended. Upon receiving feedback, I made changes to my double exposure.

PROJECT 2C: PRODUCTION, SHOOTING & EDITING

1. Photo Manipulation

Before beginning this project, Mr. Martin advised us to sketch several ideas for our photo manipulation. I used items that were around my house and started drawing.

After Mr. Martin reviewed my sketches, he said it was best for me to proceed with Sketch Idea #1. We began our photo shooting session that day. The following are the results from the photo session.

Fig 4.2 Ice cream

I start by adjusting the color and brightness of the ice cream image as it was a little dark.

Afterwards, I masked the filling of the ice cream since I only needed the cone for this project. Then, I used the selection to expand it by 40 pixels. Lastly, I used the content-aware fill feature. The result is messy but it doesn't really matter as it will be covered by the top of the microphone.

I proceeded to mask the microphone and applied said mask. To create the illusion that the microphone is inside the cone, I duplicated the cone layer and masked the hand and cone from the background. After so, I deemed my photo manipulation as complete.
