INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 1: PROJECT PROPOSAL

Project Proposal

Once we had decided on the direction of our project, we began preparing a proposal brief outlining the rationale behind our project and how we would execute it. This section includes proposed research areas, data gathering methods, and technical executions for the project.

I started by outlining ideas.

Moodboard

In my consultation with Mr. Asrizal, he expressed a preference for my third idea, Character Designs based on the 5 stages of grief. After receiving his confirmation, I began creating my moodboard and developing ideas for the characters.

Character Designs

First Version

In my consultation with Mr. Asrizal, he expressed a preference for my third idea, Character Designs based on the 5 stages of grief. After receiving his confirmation, I began creating my moodboard and developing ideas for the characters.

Feedback:
 1. DENIAL
- give it amore distinct color palette compared to the other caracters
- the imbalance drape design in too detailed, consider something more symetrical

2. ANGER
- the new design looks better
- work on the height more, should add more waist

3. BARGAINING
- the height could be worked with
- the veil and the drape covering her is confusing to look at since they look like it belongs together, I could explore more with the color palette while still saying in the same blue purple tone

4. DEPRESSION
- The hand looks like a belt so it's good to add more visual cues.
- Add more height
- Incorporating a sword could be a good idea

5. ACCEPTANCE
- The expression(?) could be worked with
- Looks underwhelming compared to others, I could experiment adding more features

Second Version

Designs are made more complex and colors are assigned differently for the characters’ clarity when lined up together. Silhouette is also more defined.

There were major changes for Denial as well. The colors were still experimented.

Third Version

Designs are changed based on feedback given by the lecturer.

Character Animation

Preparing the model

Fig 2.2 Anger part files

I first illustrated the character, all layers are separated based on the parts. Then, I save it in PNG while numbering the files in order.

Animating the model

They’re all then brought over to After Effects. I started by animating the face in a separate composition. I used the liquify effect to reshape the face, nose, lips, eyebrows, eyes, etc. This way I could make the character blink and face another direction

As for animating the front hair, I used a puppet tool. The back hair on the other hand, I used a wave warp effect as my intention was to make it flow like fire.

Animating the rest of the parts were a mix of Puppet tool, Liquify, and basic transform keyframes. I also used ‘Parent & Link’ to make some sections move together

Final Outcome

Here is the final outcome for both anger and bargaining.

AR Implementation

I had to render the animation in a PNG Sequence. This is because Adobe Aero only accept animation files in a GIF or Sequence format in a zip file. Afterwards, the zip file is imported into Adobe Aero. This process takes a while depending on the frames and its quality.

Final Output

Final output for the AR implementation. These recordings are done using Adobe Aero on iPhone.
